5 Ways to Manage Your Sugar Cravings as a Diabetic

We all indulge our sweet tooth from time-to-time. However, it’s important to restrict how much you consume to control your blood sugar. This is especially important for diabetics. While it’s ridiculous to ask someone to cut out desserts and sweets altogether, there are some ways to satisfy those cravings without spiking those glucose levels.

Plan your meal ahead of time. By doing this, you can determine just how much or little to dedicate towards dessert. It’s all about balancing healthy foods with the occasional sweet food.

Fruit can be your best friend. Fruit is low in carbs, an excellent source of fiber, and has no added sugar.

Limit sugary drinks. Many drinks, like soda and juice, contain lots of sugar that can spike your glucose levels.

Out of sight, out of mind. An easy way to avoid sugar is to stop buying these sugary foods! You will be less tempted with the food out of your home. Or, keep them in a place you don’t frequent often. Also, avoid situations where you are likely to come into contact with unhealthy foods.

Start but don’t finish. Just because you indulge in a processed food doesn’t mean you have to eat everything in the package.

Don’t be too hard on yourself! Try to follow your diabetes diet 4 out of 5 days. And remember, tomorrow is a new day to start your healthy food habits.
