Benefits of the Pescatarian Diet

What is the pescatarian diet anyway?

  • Followers of the pescatarian diet cannot eat meat, but they can eat fish. Other than that, they follow a vegetarian diet and tend to stay away from poultry. You’ll find some will eat dairy and eggs, while others will not. In sum, though, there are benefits of this diet! Let’s go over a few:

  1. Longer life. Due to the elimination of meat, particularly red meat, followers of the pescatarian diet tend to live longer. Your blood pressure will be more manageable and you are at lower risk of developing cancer and heart disease.

  2. It’s generally safe for diabetics, although you will want to talk with your doctor to ensure it’s the right diet for you.

  3. You get plenty of protein and omega-3 fatty acids, which help reduce inflammation in your blood vessels as well as reduce plaque build-up.

  4. It’s great for the environment! Raising livestock has a large carbon footprint.
